A Comparative Study on the Primary School Childrens¡¯ Knowledge about Prevention of the Intestinal Parasites


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the knowledge and the habits of living of primary schoolchildren about the prevention of intestinal parasites to guide them at school and at home.
The materials of this study were sampled from 1062 fifth grade primary
school children; 642 from urban area and 420 from rural area, The data were, gathered through questionnaire papers from April to May of 1976:
The results of this study which showed us that the students in rural area were generally less knowledgeable than those in urban area were summarized
as follows;
1) 40.9% of the children¡¯s mothers were under the primary school graduates, Among them, 27.9% were in urban area. While 60.7% in rural area,
2) The students knowledge about the kinds of parasites was the highest 80.4% in urban area, but they misunderstood parasite inventions as bacteria inventions.
3) The correct responses of knowledge test on symptoms and parasitic area of ascaris were as follows;
a) Anorexia and diarrhea the answers on the former symptom were the highest 86. 9%, while the answers on the latter the lowest 35.7%.
b) About the question of parasitic area of ascaris, 63.8% of students and were as "small intestine" while 89.5%, answered: correctly as "stomach":. c) About the question of the entrance route of ascaris, 81.5% answered correctly¢¥ as "enter through mouth" but 50. 0% answered as "enter through anus".
4) The correct answers in question of the prevention method on lung hook

were as low as 32.0 %.
5 )About the question of suitable-reservoir for a parasite 57.7 of students answered correctly on the item of human feces, Whereas only 7% answered the item of room dust.
6) About the question of safe washing method of Vegetable, 57.0% of students answered correctly on thee item of "to wash in the Changirum dropped water"
7) About the question, on taping time for antiparasitic drug, 64.6% generally said on the item of "only to wash" hands", but 36.5% said; "Whenever, eggs are found in stool examination".
8) About the question on how many times they was told, 62.9% mentioned as "sometimes", while 20.6% mentioned as "never".
9) About the question on by whom did they learned, 80. 0% answered by the classroom teacher, whereas 18.0% answered by their parents.
10). About the question on the preferred foods of the students 50.3% mentioned as Kimchi and 39.3% mentioned as Sangchussam.
Among the students who answered on the item of ¡°Everything must be boiled¡±, the students in rural area were as low as 1.3%, while the students in urban area were 4.3%.
